The 2016/2017 VJBL season looks to be in great hands with the announcement of Frankston Junior Blues coaching line-up for the upcoming junior representative season. With record numbers of athletes having registered for tryouts, the Blues expect increased team numbers from previous seasons and are excited by the quality of coaches wanting to be part of a Blues program in season 2016/17.
With some new faces and plenty of familiar ones, the coaching panel boasts Victorian Junior Championship title winners, National Classic winners, Australian Club Championships winners, ex WNBL players, WNBL coaches, SEABL and Big V coaches, 2 Olympians and previous Victorian State coaches.
Steve Blackley, Frankston Basketball’s Development & High Performance Manager, was enthusiastic with the appointments saying “I’m really excited about the group of coaches we have assembled. We made some real inroads this year with the performance of our junior teams and with the calibre of coaches we have on board in season 2016/17 we plan on making further gains as we strive to be a well-resourced club that athletes and coaches alike have the opportunity to reach their potential in the sport.”
Frankston Blues Chairman Gary Emery believes the forthcoming season will be another opportunity for the Blues club to take a positive step forward in providing talented junior athletes from the Frankston Basketball domestic program a pathway to elite junior representative basketball. “The Frankston Blues Committee in partnership with the Frankston & District Board of Management are excited about the recent Junior Blues coaching appointments and the plans Steve Blackley and his team have in place to make 2016/17 VJBL season a success for our Junior Blues athletes and families. This year the Blues made history for our club with former Blues players David Andersen & Ryan Broekhoff representing Australia at Rio Olympics. Both players started out as bottom-age U12s and shows what is possible if you dream big and work hard at achieving great things in our sport that can take you all over the world.”
With U12 – U20 try-outs scheduled to commence in mid-October and concluding over the weekend of the Junior Representative Pre-season Tournament (Fri 28 October – Sun 30 October 2016), it is an exciting time of year for the Blues program and the club wishes appointed Junior Blues coaches the best of luck in season 2016/17.
